  Captive Rearing Program

 

We have been rearing larvae for over 4 years. In the lab, larvae are housed individually in plastic cups. During the summer they are moved to growth cages in the field. Larvae that are ready to emerge into the adult stage go into larger, upright mesh pagodas and are checked daily.

 

Purpose of Captive Program

research for the preservation of the species
supplement populations
rescue larvae from failing habitat
re-introduce larvae into restored habitat
